DOGFOOD RECALLS and the truth about your dogfoods !

23/02/2020

From traces of euthansia drug to toxic levels of vitamin D , there are many reasons for recalls amongst dog food. do you feed HILLS NUTRITION , MYDOG, HAPPY HOUNDS, ROYAL CANIN, TASTE OF THE WILD, please read find out more! ...

I find it disgraceful that these companies continue to sell dogfood after the severity of the recalls and mistakes that have been made, the sheer number is frightening! we buy our dogfood in good faith hoping these companys want the best for our dogs as they claim, so I find it shocking that some dogfood has caused illness and even death to some pets!

This is not like it is a one time mistake... no quite the opposite actually , instead of researching what brands have been recalled it was becoming hard to find one that hadn't !!!
Here are some MAJOR f*** up's  that I would like you all to know..

Jan 2020 - HAPPY HOUNDS FROZEN RAW DOGFOOD recalls food due to SALMONELLA Shops including Waitrose, Iceland and Sainsburys have all issued recall

Sept. 26, 2019 - Performance Dog All Performance Dog raw pet food
Sept. 24, 2019 - Best Bully Sticks Pig ears

Aug 2019 - RAW TREAT PETFOOD LTD recalls treats due to traces of salmonella in its products.

July 2019 - Various Pig ears
Jan. 31, 2019 Hill's Pet Nutrition Science Diet and Prescription Diet

April 2019 - ROYAL CANIN announced that there is a melamine derivate in the rice protien concentate used in its dry dogfood products. Royal Canin has decided to recall all products containing the rice protien.

ROYAL CANIN !?! The same ROYAL CANIN recommended by vets, pet shops and breeders up and down the country ??
i hate to tell you YES, but what many of you dont know is this is not the first time royal canin has had its petfood recalled ...
in FEBUARY 2006 the fda issued a recall for royal canin veterinary diet dog foods and cat foods due to high levels of vitamin D3. Then..
In APRIL 2007 the fda issued another recall for several royal canin veterinary diets and 'sensible choice' dogfood products due to a potential melamine contamination!
So to receive another recall 12 years later for the same problem says is all in my opinion , THESE PEOPLE JUST DONT CARE! Shame on you ROYAL CANIN for not learning from those past events!

(Melamine is a compound used to make plastic. In june 2009 a company called 'chemnutra.ltd' was taken to court after it was found to be adding the chemical melamine to its wheat gluten to make it appear that the product had a higher protein content. After selling their product to dogfood company's up and down the USA, causing death and illness to thousands of family pets.)

TOXIC METALS SUCH AS LEAD, MERCURY, ARSENIC AND CADMIUM FOUND IN POPULAR PETFOODS!

The clean label project is a not for profit organisation in America who are concerned about the industrial and environmental contaminants in customer products and use state of the art laboratory testing to expose the best and worst performers. They dont only just test pet foods, they test baby food, protein powders, coffee and more. The Clean Label Project worked with Ellipse Analytics to test 900 of the bestselling pet foods and treats for over 130 contaminates and toxins. Lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium were just a few of the contaminants the lab says it found in a variety of pet foods.Jackie Bowen of the Clean Label project said, "Seeing lead levels that were 55 TIMES those observed in Michigan drinking water" was among the most surprising findings of the tests.

Orijen foods

Here is what Bowen said in regards to ORIJEN foods following lab results:
Orijen brand pet food states that it's biologically appropriate on the label and it's website claims they use human grade ingredients. However, the lab says it found lead in at least one Orijen dog food product, at levels three times the FDA guidance for lead in certain human foods. Orijen food tested positive for 300 ppb lead. The FDA advisory levels for dried fruit and candy limits lead to 100 ppb for human consumption.

Interestingly, The clean label lab results show that products labelled as GRAIN FREE had higher toxins that those that didn't
And, of the tested products those with TURKEY as a protein source tested cleaner than others, where as products with FISH as a protein source tested worst.

TASTE OF THE WILD, again another highly recommended food has shown to contain heavy metals such as lead as well as PESTICIDES, ACRYLAMIDE and BPA

28/02/2019
A Lawsuit against Diamond petfoods - TASTE OF THE WILD brand was filed claiming the petfood was negligent, reckless and/or intentional practice of misrepresenting, failing to test for, and failing to disclose the risk/ or presence of heavy metals, toxins, Bisphenol A (BPA)

EUTHANASIA DRUG
The worst possible scenario, you feed your dog its petfood and it dies within hours of eating it ?
This has actually happened with company's such as Evanger's and Smuckers but they aren't the first companies to admit that their products have been contaminated with euthanasia drugs. In fact, the FDA began studying the issue in 1990 after hearing reports from its own veterinarians that pentobarbital "seemed to be losing its effectiveness in dogs." ( basically the dogs where building a natural immunity toward the product and the usual doses that would be used to put a animal to sleep where not strong enough)

The agency subsequently tested dozens of dog food brands for the presence of pentobarbital in 2002 and found that many came back positive, according to results posted on the FDA's website. Besides safety, the findings also raised concerns that dog and cat food is made from the euthanized remains of other dog and cats.A investigation in 2018 found at least 31 varieties of dog food contained traces of pentobarbital, a lethal drug most commonly used for the euthanization of dogs, cats and horses.

PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON YOUR BRAND

If you have been lucky enough NOT to see your brand mentioned so far doesn't mean it hasn't been recalled it may just mean I haven't mentioned it here there ARE MORE, Some company's have received cautions instead of recalls and so you MUST do your own checks on your own brands. i just wanted to open your eyes to this scandal if you didn't know already.
